The boys soccer team battled from behind all night vs. league rival Fairborn at home Tuesday to force a 2-2 tie and clinch the GWOC American South championship for the 2nd straight year. Fairborn scored in the 3rd minute and held the league until early in the 2nd half when senior Omar Ahmouda found the back of the net to even the score 1-1. Fairborn would score again to take a 2-1 lead with less than 25 minutes remaining in the game. The buccaneers wouldn’t be denied, a Xenia player was taken down inside the 18-yard box and Cameron Atkinson connected on the penalty kick to even the score 2-2. The remaining 20 minutes of the game were dominated by Xenia but they were unable to find the back of the net. The game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Prior to the game senior soccer players: Omar Ahmouda, Ezequiel Gaspar, Nate Higgins, Jonas Marotta, Victor Oluwasanya and Matt Stefan were honored! The boys soccer team will play in the OHSAA state soccer tournament 2nd round Saturday October 21st vs the winner of Miamisburg/Tecumseh 7pm location TBA.
